The wooden spoon – a useless utensil

Never in the history of football has there been a more despised indication of failure.  The wooden spoon, used for stirring ingredients during cooking, is awarded without hype but much derision to the team that finishes last.

Doug Gott – deep connections to football

Football was in the blood.  His Mum’s side of the family.  Doug Gott was 12, riding his bike up Victoria Road to Northcote Park Football Club in 1962 for his first year of club football.  He was tall for his age, rangy with a loping stride.
